Introduction: When I became a Christian I became engaged – a bride, and I am waiting to be
married! The Jewish man placed a prayer shawl over his head and repeated:

Hosea 2:19-20(NKJV) – 19“I will betroth you to Me forever; yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness
and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy; 20I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know
the Lord.

I. What Does it Mean to Be “The Bride of Christ?”

John 3:27-36(NKJV) – 27John answered and said, “A man can receive nothing unless it has
been given to him from heaven. 28You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the
Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’ 29He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the
friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the
bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled. 30He must increase, but I must
decrease. 31He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks
of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
32And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. 33He
who has received His testimony has certified that God is true. 34For He whom God has sent
speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. 35The Father loves the
Son, and has given all things into His hand. 36He who believes in the Son has everlasting life;
and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

A. Jesus is the Bridegroom, We Are the Bride.

B. We Are Given a Bridal Gown.

2 Peter 3:14-18(NKJV) –14Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent
to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15and consider that the
longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the
wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of
these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and
unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
17You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from
your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; 18but grow in the
grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and
forever. Amen.

1 Timothy 6:6-14(NKJV) – 6Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought
nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and
clothing, with these we shall be content. 9But those who desire to be rich fall into
temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in
destruction and perdition. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which
some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with
many sorrows.11But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. 12Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you
were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many
witnesses. 13I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ
Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep this
commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing…

II. But Pastor, What if I Fail?

ILL: That is what the story of Hosea is all about! Gomer sold herself for jewels,
dresses, and rich foods but eventually wound up being a slave to them.

Hosea 3:1-3(NKJV) – 1Then the Lord said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by a
lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the Lord for the children of Israel, who
look to other gods and love the raisin cakes of the pagans.” 2So I bought her for myself for
fifteen shekels of silver, and one and one-half homers of barley. 3And I said to her, “You shall
stay with me many days; you shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a man—so, too, will
I be toward you.”

A. Sin, Unless it is Handled Will Make a Slave Out of Anyone (Don’t Fool
Yourself – It Will Control You!)

B. You Have to Separate Yourself from Any Sinful Habit.
Hosea 4:6-12(NKJV) – 6

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have
rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; because you have
forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. 7“The more they increased, the more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame. 8 they eat up the sin of My people; they set their heart on their iniquity. 9 and it shall be: like people, like priest.
So I will punish them for their ways, and reward them for their deeds. 10 for they shall eat,
but not have enough; they shall commit harlotry, but not increase; because they have
ceased obeying the Lord. 11“Harlotry, wine, and new wine enslave the heart. (we can add
drugs to this list)

C. Every Sin Carries Spirits with It!

1 Corinthians 6:15-20(NKJV) – 15Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ?
Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly
not! 6Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the
two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” 17But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with
Him. 18Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who
commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19Or do you not know that your body
is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not
your own? 20For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your
spirit, which are God’s.

ILL: Some people have so many spirits in bed with them it’s a wonder they don’t
fall out of bed.

III. The Marriage of the Bride
Revelation 19:6-10(NKJV) – 6And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the
sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thundering, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord
God Omnipotent reigns! 7Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the
Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” 8And to her it was granted to be
arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. 9Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’”
And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.” 10And I fell at his feet to worship him.
But he said to me, “See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren
who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of
prophecy.”

Conclusion: I have been witness to a marriage supper (eastern
style) the couple become man and wife when they are lifted into the
air and embrace. Are you ready?
